March is a tough month for actress Lauren London. On March 31, 2019, her long-time partner, Nipsey Hussle, was gunned down in front of his Marathon Clothing Store. The “You People” star shared a heartbreaking tribute to the father of her 5-year-old son Kross. It’s been five years since his untimely death, and the time hasn’t made London’s grieving any easier.

London shared, “If you know me, you know March is always tough for me.” She wrote, “31 days of holding my breath. This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024. Interesting…considering your name #GodWillRise. Energy never dies. I love you. Eternal.”

London’s grief has been a heavy burden to bear. Shortly after Nipsey’s killer, Eric Holder Jr., was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison, London told PEOPLE, “I have to wake up with the intention of this every day because there are days I don’t want to, and I’m like angry about it. And that’s what healing is. It is up and down, side to side, all over the place. You know what I mean? And with each new level, there’s something else.”

Nipsey’s family plans to open Marathon Clothing Store No. 2 in honor of Hussle’s plans to open another store himself. The Marathon flagship store is currently closed but remains a memorial site for Nipsey. Hussle’s older brother, Samiel Asghedom, said that they are also developing a community space that will offer free music lessons for young people, similar to a program Nip was part of when he was younger.

Asghedom said Nipsey Hussle’s family additionally plans to reopen Steve’s Barber Shop on the corner near The Marathon Clothing Store as a location for free haircuts for kids. He also hopes to create a museum that properly honors Nipsey.
