For nearly 50 years, KMOJ Radio 89.9 FM, The People’s Station, operated by the Center for Communication and Development (CCD), has served as the voice of the Black community in Minneapolis–St. Paul, broadcasting from the heart of North Minneapolis. Now, at a historic crossroads, KMOJ is preparing to build its forever home. With secured land and state support, KMOJ will construct a “state-of the-art” broadcast and media facility at Lowry and Oliver Avenue in North Minneapolis. This milestone comes as part of the Blue Line expansion, which requires relocation, but also creates an opportunity for KMOJ to grow, expand its reach, and secure its legacy for future generations.

SITE REVEAL CELEBRATION On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM, KMOJ will host a Site Reveal Celebration at the new construction site: 2125 Lowry Avenue North, Minneapolis

The new facility will allow for:

Expanded community programming

Extended training for youth and future broadcasters

Improved broadcast and digital capabilities

A permanent home ensuring that KMOJ remains the heartbeat of the community

The event also marks the official launch of KMOJ’s $17 million Capital Campaign, which will fund the new broadcast center, set to be completed by 2028. “This is more than a building, it’s our forever home,” said Freddie Bell, KMOJ General Manager & CEO. “It is a permanent commitment to North Minneapolis, to our listeners, and to the future of community media. We want everyone to see where we are headed and celebrate this historic moment with us.”
