More than 100 people gathered Tuesday evening to honor the late Sammy McDowell at Shiloh Temple International Ministries . The church hosted a balloon release and community picnic in his name.

McDowell operated Sammy’s Avenue Eatery, a coffee and sandwich shop he opened in 2012 on West Broadway Avenue. He was a gentle soul known to help other entrepreneurs achieve success.

A Tribe Called Quest will officially go into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of this year’s inductee class along with Mary J. Blige.

On Sunday evening (April 21), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced their class of inductees for 2024 through their social media accounts. The legendary Hip-Hop group A Tribe Called Quest was among those to gain entry. Sammy McDowell, owner of Sammy’s Avenue Eatery in north Minneapolis, suddenly dies

MINNEAPOLIS — The owner of a popular North Minneapolis sandwich shop died suddenly on Sunday.

Sammy McDowell, who owns Sammy’s Avenue Eatery, died after collapsing during church service, family members told WCCO.

Loved ones gathered outside the sandwich shop Sunday evening as they mourned and honored the loss of a beloved community member.

MINNEAPOLIS — After one of the best seasons in franchise history, two Minnesota Timberwolves players and head coach Chris Finch are finalists for major NBA awards.

The league announced the finalists Sunday. Rudy Gobert is up for Defensive Player of the Year, Naz Reid is a candidate for Sixth Man of the Year and Finch is a finalist for Coach of the Year.
